A New Addition to the Family

Surprise!!!

Haha, nope I'm not pregnant.

So Scott and I had been discussing getting a dog for quite some time. We decided financially we weren't ready and were going to wait a couple more years. Unfortunately (fortunately?) a little puppy had a different idea.

Bella (Scott named her, not me, has nothing to do with twilight :) ) found us the day we came home from the hospital the second time with Caden. She was jumping on me as soon as I opened my car door. When Scott opened the door to let me into the house, she ran right in. We spent a week putting out flyers and ad's in the newspaper trying to find her owner's. She had a little red collar with a bell, but no tags. We guessed she had been dumped because she is not potty trained. We found a kennel by our mailboxes and it fits her perfectly and she goes right in. We figure it was hers.

We did go through a period where we were trying to find her a good home with some friends, but ultimately we just fell in love with her. She is fabulous with both boys, Nathan and her play non stop. Nathan will actually go places without me (out back, potty) if Bella goes with him. And she loves him. She cries when he goes down for his nap or is at school. Caden is not too interested in her, but will occasionally try and stick his fingers in her mouth, ear, eyes, etc. Bella just takes it, moves away from him or we rescue her. She is yappy and licky, but I guess that is expected from a dog.

Then there is Scott. I know he would have liked something younger and bigger, but he does enjoy her. He can often be found watching tv and cuddling with her on the couch in the evenings.

I enjoy the company when Scott is at school Monday and Tuesday evenings. And the relief I get from not having to entertain Nathan constantly is fabulous. I hate the messes, but all in all I think it was worth it.

Here she is the day we found her.

Here we are playing in the back yard with her for the first time. She is such a sweetie pie. Unfortunately Nathan wears her out much sooner than she wears him out :) .

I took her to the vet yesterday and everything was fine. She is healthy and probably close to a year old. She isn't spayed, so that is something we will have to look into, but other than that she is all up to date on her shots. I joke that her and Caden are on the same level, always getting into things they shouldn't be. The vet informed us that she is most likely a pure breed rat terrier.

Oh she's cute! Not my fav breed of dog (obviously I like bigger dogs), but they can be sweet little dogs. sometimes you don't pick your animals, they pick you. I'm so glad you guys kept her. she will be good for you all. You should look up ownupsa.com, they have some info on low cost spay/neuter places and such. Most of the places are only one day and 1st come 1st serve, but they are cheap. Good luck with everything, it's really really good that's she does so well with the boys. She's a cutie!! :)

She is soooo cute! I know she will be a very special part of your family. She made me think of Ginger. Even though she is a different breed. But Ginger loved you and you loved Ginger. I don't know if you remember her. She was a cocker spaniel. Hopefully she will potty train now. I know you will have lots of fun with her if she does. YIPPEE!!!

Awesome! I love rescue stories. We rescued our dog from beig put down and I think she licks us constantly, just to make up for it. Bella is a less spotted version of our rat terrier Scout. She keeps me company when Phil is away. Hope you are having fun.

Now I officially can not come visit you...sorry don't like indoor pets, but she is really cute!! I can see why you wanted to keep her if you are into the pet thing. You have more energy than I do, puppies are SOOOOO much work!!! Good luck!

Congrats on the new addition! Sounds like that dog knew he had found a family that would love him.

What a cutie! Dogs are so much fun-Brian said I had to choose between a dog and a baby but hopefully one day we'll get a puppy (preferrably when my kids are old enough to do all the work)!

We thinking your little Bella is so cute. Bradley saw the picture of Nathan and Bella at the bottom of the slide and said, "When Nathan come to our house?" :)

Bradley thinks he needs a dog too!

I was just checking out the comments,
and realized I called Bella a 'him'!
I'm sorry! That was a typo! I hope all is well with you guys and with cute little Bella.
